Folder Redirection Problem
i working in environment running 2003 native domain mix of xp sp3 , vista sp2 workstations. utilizing roaming profiles , folder redirection. problem i've been working on related functionality of 3rd party application.
this 3rd party application references both "shell" , "user shell" registry locations inside of hkcu and not work if those values referencing unc pathing, mapped drives work. the drive mapping necessary performed upon login (the profile tab in users ad object has home folder configured).
with vista workstations, if set folder redirection p: drive (p = value indicated in users ad object home folder), folder redirection completes successfully, , 3rd party app runs properly.
when user logs xp workstation same user gpo applied, folder redirection fails citing "the path cannot found"
this leads me believe drive mapping occurring after group policy folder redirection processed when logging onto windows xp workstation, opposite happens on vista workstation.
i've enabled group policy (gpsvcdebuglevel & userenvdebuglevel) & winlogon (dbflag) debugging on both xp , vista workstations rough comparison don't see results support theory. know of other logging can enable, or method use change way xp workstations process policy in order allow drive mapping occur first? might able create desired effect using gpp drive mapping method require quite bit of maniuplation within aduc.
well opened case microsoft , found solution problem, there no solution. windows xp , vista or greater oss work differently.
when logging domain on winxp workstation, first group policy processed, home folders established(and there isn't way change this).
when logging domain on vista workstation, home folders established, group policy run.
with setup have no, home folder needs established can referenced during policy processing folder redirection, based on how oss process during login works fine on vista doesn't because variable isn't established when xp attempts use it.
unfortunately our setup, user home folders distributed randomly our file structure without anyway "predict" folder be. drawing board me.
