LOB Application Design Advice

i'm working on building application track manufacturing products , orders. i'm building ground (sql server end, .net front end). application run in controlled environment , though experience in past has been in windows application development, decided implement front end using silverlight due deployment aspect. (yes i'm doing myself. employer says can hire software engineer every candidate find either deny or stall indefinitely, that's different story, shouldn't vent here.) i've been messing .net ria services, entity framework, & mvvm pattern. feel if can these elements play nice, i'll have loosely coupled, maintainable, , extendable system allow me add on functionality , features on monthly basis. think i'm lost somewhere between 2 problems. problem #1 database architecture / entity framework. manufacturing engineers have created instructions on how each product created. these instructions collectively known product definition. divide

today when tried import new workitem type our tfs-server strange error-message: === u:\workitems>"e:\program files\microsoft visual studio 8\common7\ide\witimport.exe" /f newbug.xml /t tfs /p test team foundation server work item database cannot opened. may offline system administration. try again later or contact team foundation server administrator. === strange thing can export workitems definitions , when try import project not exists informed of that. same error-message when use process template editor , have tried several different workitem definitions (all validated fine). suggestions? please check database administrator find out if work item database taken offline or set readonly reason. you can try edit work item in database see if can make edit verify if server side issue. thanks Archived Forums V >

cluster shared volume question

i'm standing windows 2012 r2 cluster in vmware environment. 3 cluster members on same subnet, built same image, , basic setup through failover cluster manager went fine. have 2 iscsi luns, call them b , t. both presented 3 vm's, verified 3 vm's can see both luns in disk management. intention present them both cluster shared volumes cluster members can use them. can never 3 nodes mount both luns @ same time. the closest i've gotten 3 seeing b , 2 seeing t. when lun doesn't mount, still creates entry under c:\clusterstorage, icon folder instead of mount or link. doing dir command verifies folders, get-clustersharedvolume on non-mounting node shows both online. enabled mpio feature , installed kb3172614 (roll-up update clustering). multiple reboots, no change. several technet articles said check networks , make sure client ms networks , file/print sharing enabled. was. said make sure smb allowed; checked firewall , manually checked port 445 telne

hello, have seen lot of questions no response has fixed issue. post scenario , have tired: configured hp 6930p notebook vanilla image of windows 7 sp1 (also tired rtm) , had join our domain , default domain policy hardly customized when gets computer default ou. test computer happens all. if disconnect domain , connect outside internet connection such employee bring pc home use boot process takes 60 seconds , spins @ "welcome" screen. (i count based on number of times circle spins. if not connect network takes 2-3 seconds load past welcome screen. logging local accounts takes less 2-3 seconds. logging while on domain less 5 seconds. here have tired: windows 7 licensed , activated no virus scan installed security patches applied hardware drivers loaded disabled windows firewall networks read , tired apply hot fix 977346 hot fix said did not apply. still enabled workarounds setting reg entry 5 or less: delayeddesktopswitchtimeout disabling desktop window

i try creating new ou name finance. create group in ou call finance , create user call test123. when setup share folder using provision share. add finance in , select deny. still able access folder. can me solve ? make sure user test123 lives in group finance, not in ou finance. if test123 in group finance, guess that's because user test123 accessing shared folder locally. share permission (deny/allow) works when test123 accessing shared folder remote. i not 1 asking question. after searching found tons of information, of rather old (2000-2007) , of rather conflicting (not mention not make sense). this doing: select count(*) mytable siteid = 233 so want know how many records pertaining site 233 in mytable table. the requirement solution has compatible sql server 2000 , above. i researched using both alternatives , results bacically: don't use *!!!! instead use other field. using * (really) bad because makes sql server work harder. using field nullable return unexpected results if of records have field set null (that invalidates statement above). make sure specify field can't null. use name of primary key instead of * or field name. using field name (that not nullable) , * same , performance gain not noticeable. what want determine whether record exists. don't care how many rows in table pertaining site id. may lead alternate method better using count(). perhaps there better (performance wise) way thi

hi, i have question restricting sql user connection after amount of time. (sql 2000) in otherwords can kill connections made application aftercertain amount of time. (say 50 seconds.) i saw options sql query analyzer tools->options -> connections 1. login timeout 2. network package size 3. query timeout 4. lock timeout i guess setting of meet requirement. if 1 used these kind of requirement please post here. or can use 'remote query timeout option' sp_configure. thanks in advance mka connections 'should' controlled application. applications, design use connection pooling, purposefully leaving 1 or more connections 'open' in order increase response time application. with .net applications, may wish explore properties , methods of connection, , connection pool objects. i, personally, wouldn't bother attempting control connections within server. hello, have app using sql ce compact 4 ole db in c++. it has always worked , still works xp windows 7 (i have dual boot windows 7/windows 10 test) but on windows 10, doesn't work anymore. fails at idbproperties::setproperties with dbpropset_dbinit returning db_s_errorsoccurred , property fails is dbprop_auth_integrated returning dbprop.dwstatus = dbpropstatus_notsupported uninstalled/reinstalled sql ssceruntime , nothing changed. same thing sqlite/sql server compact toolbox add-in doesn't work in vs 2015 on windows 10, i cannot create new database i : thanks idea... the automatic update, windows 10 version 1703 15063.483 solved problem miracle. probably corrupted key in registry. hello, i in process of preparing our migration hyper-v 2012. @ moment little bit stuck on desision network layout chosse. our future datacenter enviroment have 2 hyper-v clusters (1 5 node production , management systems , 1 2 node cluster dmz) , host 150 vms. there no dynamic in physical infrastructure. systems planned have capacity needed on next 3 4 years. converged fabric i have done experiments converged fabric aproach (without havig vmm managing fabric) , ran several small issues. i have had dublicate mac addresses because hosts had same local mac pool. , vnics hosts got served local mac pool. the vmm dhcp switch extension has installed , activated before joining them cluster , managing them vmm. all avoided using vmm manage fabric or manually managing local mac etc. having vmm manage fabric require vmm run outside cluster on seperate server , effort in initial setup of vmm. tradional setup this straight forward, having 3 teams (host management, csv , li

hello all! issue , situation: network has server windows server2008 installed. workstations trying connect through vpn running microsoft windows xp pro. had our static i.p.'s updated. work in admin building, server located. have 1 linksys router attached server. there building in workstations isnt connected our network because out of reach(all workstations in connected internet through verizon modem,). main issue cannot building workstations connect through updated vpn connection(when updated mean updated vpn i.p. , dns settings). vpn's aren't hard setup did not set network. routers , modems setup vpn connection take place. error when trying connect vpn building tells me there issue 1 of routers or inside server. missing inside server? have never worked vpn connection server not forshore if there on server pertains vpn. if has expert tips benefit me in figuring out appreciate sooooooo such annoying issue!! hi customer, you change vpn ip , dns setti
