Large pool of restricted access printers
scenario: windows server 2012 r2 rds cluster (currently 4 session hosts), presenting remoteapps of dynamics ax 2012 rich client user base of 450 users. users located in 100 remote offices, each office has network printer dedicated solely check printing. beyond general need of accessing default client-mapped printers, 10 users have additional requirement need able print of these dedicated check printers, none of other users should able print these. previously, these mapped via ip within as/400 application, users did not map directly check printers @ all.
solution option 1: map 100 printers on each of 10 clients. option require map check printers existing central or local print server , apply, either ou or wmi filter, gpo maps printers clients. require group policy override default limit on number of printers mapped in rds session. seems become big hassle manage on client side
solution option 2: manually map 100 printers via ip each of rds servers, , lock user rights on each network printer object ad group containing 10 users has right print. doing avoids having manage print server, requires ton of manual entry , faces pretty ugly scaling issues if have grow session host server farm.
solution option 3: use print server/gpo combination in solution 1 push printers servers. works around scaling limits of client management, , gives solution configure once, push it, , thing have work through on server side driver issues. given current knowledge, route seems make sense.
my question are
1. there scaling limits of working 100-150 printers mapped through these options?
2. option 3 best option solving issue?
3. there other workable solutions i'm failing consider, given requirements , technology available here?
