Licensing Diagnoser does not see CALs, but Licensing Manager sees several CALs

i have new window server 2012 standard r2 installation running active directory server, among other things.  i'd run remote desktop services, understand 'originally' microsoft didn't want rds , ad running on same machine.

i tried installing, , uninstalling, multiple times.  each time thought got closer.  ran through http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2833839 , able installed.  still can't install broker service. first hurdle down.

now came time install cals.  first time, said success , thought good.  licensing diagnoser said:

the remote desktop session host server in per user licensing mode , no redirector mode, license server njserver not have installed licenses following attributes:
product version: windows server 2012
licensing mode: per user
license type: rds cals

i tried reinstalling cals, rebuilding licensing database, until looks cal accepted , 1 cal available.  licensing manager shows have 4 licenses: built-in ts per device (unlimited cals) , 3 installed rds per user cals.  licensing diagnoser still reports same "does not have installed licenses" message.

i appreciate help.

thanks, bernie

hi bernie,

thank posting in windows server forum.

first of please make sure check license configuration , there no warnings respect configuration. license server should part of ‘terminal server license’ group in active directory domain services. after if rerun diagnoser on rdsh server can see server can see license server cal type.

seems issue caused setting different licensing mode. need install proper rds cal on license server.  if license server has installed licenses of other mode, changing licensing mode terminal server may resolve issue.

change licensing mode can use rd licensing diagnoser or powershell command.

change licensing mode on rdsh/rdvh:

$obj = gwmi -namespace "root/cimv2/terminalservices" win32_terminalservicesetting
$obj.changemode(value) - value can 2 - per device, 4 - per user

in addition above suggestion, can check below thread more steps.
