LAN Name Resolution different from Internet

i have windows server 2003 acting dns, , exchange server 2003. internet connection through standard adsl router.
my mail domain name - mail.company.com - has correct internet mx records , points router. router has virtul server setting redirects packets exchnge server , works fine internet traffic, owa, activesync etc.
however lan mail.company.com points router , router doesnt redirect packets exchange server, , in fact ie open router configuration pages. makes logical sense dns has no entry mail.company.com redirects request internet dns returns ip address of router etc.
i think solution add dns record lan dns pointing mail.company.com @ lan ip address of exchange server, computers using dns, i.e. on lan lan ip address of exchange server , computers on internet ip address of router.
however when set mail.company.com on lan dns addresses www.company.com, ftp.company.com etc, ip addresses need remain pointing internet ip addresses lost.
my question therefore, sort of dns record need add lan dns server mail.company.com provided lan dns , www.company.com and *.company.com lookups redirrected internet dns.
