Configure Root Hints Only option...
hi;
in configure dns server wizard, happens when select "configure root hints" option?
thanks
that's because config wizard copies root hints systemroot\system32\dns folder, part of tasks wizard does, resolve ips internet, why see "unknown" in list. since part of wizard "failed" resolve ips, it gives failure message.
updating root hints:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc758353(ws.10).aspx
as mentioned earlier, windows 2000 when not connected, create root zone (a period). when configured, root hints disappear. "feature" removed in windows 2003 , newer. happens if not connected internet, see, doesn't configure roots correctly.
as side note, iirc, believe lack of resolving roots *may* cause eventid 7062 errors.
fyi, if 1 chooses method configure dns, such @ initial server config after aninstallation, , wasn't connected internet @ time, after wizard complets failure message, connect internet, , click on "copy server" button, , choose reliable dns server on internet source, such 4.2.2.2, , populated.
i hope helps.
