Two Node Failover Cluster. One cluster each for Sharepoint 2010 and SQL 2007

i have 4 high end servers, 2 equallogic clustered storage sans, misc required switches, ups's, etc set maximum availability. using hardware sharepoint 2010. create dual independant 2 node failover clusters using server 2008 ent r2. run sharepoint off of 1 of 2 node clusters , sql off of other , use san iscsi attached storage. i'm thinking sharepoint , sql db hosted on cluster associated vm's? correct? understanding in configuration, need have server os on physical servers , applications on vm's. please confirm/deny , let me know if thinks there issues configuration.
