DCPROMO query


my env:

root domain (x.com

child domain 1.x.com

child domain 2.x.com

my query

want build new adc in root domain, can use primary dns ip of dc1.1.x.com.

(new root adc , and dc1.1.x.com in same site per subnet)

hi.
depends how you’re replicate dns zones. if you’re storing dns zone forest root domain (x.com) in forestdnszones application partition. fine zone replicate dc has dns service installed in forest (assuming dc1.1.x.com has dns installed)
 

fyi:
if you’re installing dns part of dcpromo on computer being promoted new dc, during install set self primary dns, after finished dcpromo process should set dc1.1.x.com secondary dns.
