Had a previous SQL install, uninstalled by client. Now cant Install SQL Express 2005

 

hi,

one of our clients computers had sql version unknown installed , removed. 

we have gone in try install sql express 2005 no luck following message appears:

the setup fails when starting instance during setup

 i can supply following log file verbose logging started: 18/03/2010  13:50:17  build type: ship unicode 3.01.4001.5512  calling process: c:\program files\microsoft sql server\90\setup bootstrap\setup.exe"

 

in examining setup log find setup blocks upgrade:

1. remove, regclean, msi uninstall

2. manually deleting keys, installing primary service

3. installing sql express 2008 ... ( have log file well), running setup higher sku parameter

from description above, sql server 2005 , sql server 2008 installed before. though have tried uninstall them, seems legacies on computer. install other sql server 2008 instances, make sure sql server related components removed , successfully.

firstly, list of how many instances on computer; can see instances list in sql server configuration manager 2005/2008. secondly, go add or remove (and programs features on vista or later versions), , uninstall them. if encounter uninstalling problems, may need uninstall them manually. more information how uninstall sql server manually, please refer:

at last, after remove installed instances of sql server, can install other instance of sql server. computer must meet hardware , software requirements of specify version/edition of sql server want install.
