Windows Server Backup - Cannot find System Writer SERVER 2012

good afternoon,

i have server 2012 r2 server running windows server backup.

however, backup failing error "cannot find system writer".

i have this kb no avail.

the app logs show event id 513 source: capi2 following error:

cryptographic services failed while processing onidentity() call in system writer object.

details: traversedir: unable findfirstfile.

system error: access denied.

i able individual drives, not system state.

any appreciated.

i have fixed issue.

andy, had pointed me in right direction. however, because had read article before posted , didnt work, disregarded it. however, there little bit @ bottom of article did not read , sent me on right path.

fix:

i getting event id 8123 , and 513 in event logs.

it's easier clear event logs , restart the cryptography service see errors throws.

i tried following article didnt stop event id 8123.

i used regedit , went to

hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\services\vss

and gave nt service full permission folder , sub folders. measure ran commands specified in above link , stopped event happening.

system writer still wasn't showing.

after searching high , low on internet found had browse

c:\windows\microsoft.net

within folder had 4 folders.

go in framework , framework64 (i had take ownership)

look in each folder starting v1, v2, v3 ,v4 if have them.

find folder called temporary asp.net files (in each one) , delete files , folders in there.

run above script again measure , restart cryptographic service.

vssadmin list writers displays system writer , i've done system state backup.

***update: on weekend backup worked fine , system writer disappeared again. issue down temporary asp .net folder becoming long. clearing folder out again restores writer.

as workaround create powershell script automatically clear out these folders. however, should find out cause is. creating new thread think iis related.

get-childitem “c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework*\v*\temporary asp.net files” -recurse | remove-item -recurse
