How do I automatically force VMs to migrate before the host reboots?
i have 5 node hyper-v failover cluster using cluster shared volume. live migration has been working great when use virtual machine manager or failover cluster manager. problem vms don't automatically migrate host before lets me reboot host. instead, host powers down , vms virtually power-cords yanked. @ point, restored 1 of remaining hosts, there few minutes of down time , vm needs startup again. turns problem every week when push windows updates hosts (staggered across few hours) , automatically reboot if required.
my first question whether or not cluster service supposed migrate vms prior allowing restarted.
second question if there's way force vms migrate prior shutting down (shutdown powershell script, etc...).
additional info:
host os: server 2008 r2 datacenter
hosts , clients using latest vmm agents
hi,
if restart node before perform live migration, vms on node restarted perform quick migration. if want perform live migration through powershell, can refer following guide.
hyper-v: how initiate live migration using powershell
by way, add useful posts hyper-v cluster:
hyper-v guest server failover !! (vmware drs) ??
is there downtime involved?
