Svr 2008 Std R2 - Standalone
i setting up a hp proliant server 3 sata hdds 3 separte volumes/partitions , w2k8 svr std r2 standalone server in workgroup. role activated fileservices.
there 4 users - administrator (no password) , 3 other users (user1, user2, user3). users configured belong administrators group. 2 folders in last 2 of each hdds/volumes shared 16 workstations accesses server's shared folders using of 3 server/user accounts.
the questions are:
1) need confirm need add 2 x 5clt device cals + 1 x 1clt device cals. though not using server domain controller.
2) server operate @ optimum level file services enabled standalone server ? there other components or roles ideal enable ?
3) local site security not issue, main advantage of configuring server domain controller rather standalone server ?

using active directory domain services (ad ds) server role, can create scalable, secure, , manageable infrastructure user , resource management, , provide support directory-enabled applications such microsoft exchange server. provides distributed database stores , manages information network resources , application-specific data directory-enabled applications.

file server file server, it’s not recommended add file server role on dc, domain controller should used ad/dns/gc , dhcp(if possible, keep dhcp on separate server).
