Ask your advice on naming space.

hi all,

today, had big discussion ad design team:
propose our internal domain name should xy.net , our
company's external domain name xy.com. wonder why use xy.net
internal domain name , should use xy.local our internal domain name
seperate internal , external domain though xy.net not registered.
can me out this?

i know ms suggests subdomain of external domain internal domain.  due longer dns space, how many people use naming convention?

three methods domain naming:

1) same dns name internally , externally
2) different dns namespaces internal , external
3) sub-domain of external name

which 1 prefer?

thank you.

best practices dictate best option #2 list.  however, 1 decide has take account business drivers.  personally, attempt use option #1, because user's perspective, transparent.  however, management perspective, require additional configuration , maintaining.

take @ summary put regarding option #1.

active directory domain name considerations when using same internal , external domain name

most people respond post go option #2 or #3, again, think difficult make determination without understanding internal factors, business drivers, user acceptance, etc...
