Dis-Integrate SCCM and WSUS

hi all,

we approaching client, proposed them our solution.

they have instance of sccm 2012 running on network, , integrate wsus together.

our solution manage patching , updates, , prefer not touch current sccm @ all.

is there way dis-integrate sccm 2012 - wsus installation, , install standalone wsus v3 on network?

(although, have purchased configmgr, and, proposing ignore investment? interesting.....)

a significant number of configuration manager environments not have integrated patch management using wsus, rather patch management standalone wsus, , use configmgr osd, asset management, , (sometimes) software metering.

notable points of comparison between standalone wsus , configmgr sup:

  • superseded updates not automatically declined (although cm2012 provide limited enhancements functionality).
  • target groups , approvals less complex methodology collections , deployment rules.
  • more flexibility in client configuration in standlone wsus using gpo (different ous can have different gpos; opposed 1 config setup entire sup client collection.)
  • a standalone wsus environment takes less effort to scale large environments multi-sup configuration manager environment.
  • all files stored on wsus server (rather configmgr distribution points).
  • updates can installed on-demand using third-party software (commercial or open-source) standalone wsus.
