Does Active Directory Web Services (ADWS) require a server certificate to work


so here's scenario. i've got powershell scripts running on 1 server executing active directory calls domain controller. working, turn on netmonitor trace appears attempts made make ssl connection, fails. server not configured server authentication certificate (which can done , more secure). however, question - there way disable adws trying use ssl (or ad cmdlets powershell matter).  adws not absolutely require ssl in order work.....
