SMB2 - Netapp - Windows Server 2012 - System error 58 has occurred.

hello,

we having problem setup.

we have fas3220 on ontap version 8.1.2p4 7-mode. cifs configured workgroup , local user accounts.

the system have 10gb connection direct windows server 2012,

it has smb2 enabled. , in windows server have disabled smb1.

when try connect cifs get:

system error 58 has occurred. specified server cannot perform requested operation.

if enable smb1 on windows server 2012 works , can se server access cifs share on smb1.

do have clues on why smb2 fails?

we have tried several fixes windows server reguarding registry tweaks , local policies , different other sollution no luck.

1. secure negotiation - enable smb signing , check

2. sid compression - applies windows 2012 dcs. check article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2774190

3. cifs.smb2.signing.required   off in filer.

ipv6 diabled on server.

thanks in advance

hello people,

we did find problem why didnt work.

the reason running cifs filers in workgroup mode. , turned out support smb 2.x in workgroup mode didnt come until version 8.2 in ontap.

from release notes 8.2

"

support smb 2.x authentication cifs workgroup mode

data ontap 8.2 , later releases provide support using smb2.x authentication cifs

workgroup mode. previously, cifs workgroup authentication performed using smb 1.0.

for information cifs workgroup mode , cifs authentication, see data ontap file access , protocols management guide 7-mode."

we updated filers ontap 8.2p2 , works.

br

henrik
