Updates showing up as needed but the computer doesnt need them

  hello !

 i trying clean our wsus servers. using windows 7 64bit pc testing.  have 42 updates have not been approved on wsus, waiting me approve. ( don't approve right away ).

when pull report of 64-bit windows 7 machine wsus wsus shows following;

status summary

0 failed

13 updates have not installed

0 updates have been installed or not applicable

0 updates have unknown status

when drill down further - says updates set install , show not installed or downloaded..

these critical updates or office 2003/2007 updates... have office 2010

my question why showing yellow needed if truely not needed?

would bitsadmin /reset clear up?

hi,

bitsadmin /reset may not help.generally speaking,if updates needed computers, then indicates wua detects needed on client side.
there possibilities clients once installed office 2007,and upgraded office 2012.and installation , uninstallation not reported wsus server, update status on older updates not change.

the other scenario of relevance how logic update written, might update not detected needed(usually installation logic specific), , might still detected notinstalled (if so, arguably, flaw in detection logic).

in short,if know update no longer needed, appropriate action decline older update wuagent no longer has expend wasted effort in evaluating irrelevant update.

regards,

clarence
