WSUS and suppressing error 13032's in Event Viewer
we have wsus 3.0 (latest sp), , when threshold reached, warnings in event viewer x number of machines not having been seen in last 30 days turn errors, want see in event viewer things of concern.
is there way of either upping threshold (which 3 or 4 now) or killing notices entirely?
i aware can remove these machines wsus, find handy able see how long they've been out of contact. plus, come , problem repeats.
but find handy able see how long they've been out of contact
well, shucks. makes bed; you lies in it. :-)
using product outside of it's design parameters means you'll have take chaff along wheat. design parameter wsus registered systems communicating wsus server; in case, if choose intentionally cause condition exist beyond design specifications product (i.e. computer has not communicated in on 30 days), you're going noise condition.
plus, come eventually
hmmmm.. why scenario happen? why valid systems "leave network" extended period of time (more 30 days), , "come back". , real challenge here -- how distinguish between these "sometimes there; not" systems, , system have actual, bona fide, communication failures , not getting updates @ all? point of event log entries call attention abnormal conditions; if mask information normal conditions, compromises ability of wsus server alert actual dysfunctional situations.
however, there may way. in options | personalization, on list tab, can disable option include "computer have not reported status more 30 days". option might suppress messages being sent event log, have not tested that, cannot will. of course, noted above, eliminate built-in protections inform real problems real clients not getting real updates.
but if real motivation here historically tracking last contact/last reported dates, suggest that merely selecting rows computers view . . . ctrl-c/ctrl-p excel workbook . . . , removing systems wsus server optimal solution.
