Computer-based Default Printers in Remote Desktop Services (2008R2)
hello everyone,
thanks in advance taking time read on this.
here's scenario:
i've got server 2008r2 rds server runs remoteapp. there 3 remote sites connected slow wan link (t1). many of users @ remote sites have usb printers (let's assume budget doesn't allow them replaced network printers). of users roam between locations , of accounts connect remoteapp generic accounts used multiple computers.
the problems:
currently, i've shared printers each workstation. i've got user-based gpo created set add new shared printer (with "replace" option , "set printer default printer..." option) each shared printer , item-level targeting as:
the terminal session client name = comp1
or terminal session client name = comp2
etc.etc.
this allows me add printers user's terminal session based on computer connecting from, when roam between remote sites or computers @ site, can correct printer.
i'm running issues when same user logged session different machines (remember of these users generic users, can't specify 1 session on terminal server). during logon see series of items running, such preparing desktop, etc. did notice “applying group policy printers policy…” happens if user logging in isn't logged in else where. if logged in else “applying group policy printers policy…” never shows , printer connection never created , default printer isn't set based on policy, keeps default printer first policy.
i'm suggestions on better way , glad hear how else has been able make work in environment similar requirements.
thank posting in windows server forum.
in case, have applied gpo setting allowing single user multiple sessions. can apply gpo setting user "restrict users single session" , can apply setting under rd session host configuration.
apply gpo setting goes through below path.
computer configuration\policies\administrative templates\windows components\remote desktop services\remote desktop session host\connections
user can specify program start on connection on programs tab under options in remote desktop connection. however, can prevent user starting program on connection; more information preventing user starting program on connection, see specify program start automatically when user logs on.
more information:
restrict users single session
