'Override user settings' enforced by GPO
hello,
i running rds farm 2 windows server 2008 r2 session hosts.
i using following 2 policies within gpo under computer configuration | policies | administrative templates | windows components | remote desktop services | remote desktop session host | session time limits
- set time limit disconnected session
- set time limit active idle remote desktop service sessions
i went rdp-tcp settings on both servers , checked top checkbox called 'override user settings' on 'sessions' tab. seems working expected set 'override user settings' through gpo tried not able find policy in gpo that. through google not able find either.
is there such policy?
thank you

hi marcus,
based on original post understanding setting time limit disconnected sessions time limit idle sessions via group policy , override user settings, however, notice override user settings checkbox unchecked in rdp-tcp properties. if understanding incorrect please let me know.
what attempted explain before timeouts set via group policy are overriding user settings, regardless of fact checkbox not checked in rdp-tcp properties. reason checkbox not selected automatically in rdp-tcp properties because logically pertains 3 timeouts, , set 2 of three. if set third timeout via group policy see override user settings checkbox selected automatically.
as test please take few minutes , play different timeout settings set via group policy. example, set 3 timeouts mentioned above, gpupdate /force on rdsh servers, open rd session host configuration (tsconfig.msc), check properties of rdp-tcp. close rd session host configuration, change having 2 of 3 timeouts selected, gpupdate /force again, open rd session host config , check properties again, close rd session host config.
as additional test set timeouts low value such 1 minute via group policy, set timeouts on test user account 1 hour, run gpupdate /force on rdsh servers, , logon test user account. notice 1 minute timeout values take effect though user account properties set 1 hour--this evidence settings overriding though checkbox in rdp-tcp unselected.
after completing tests please set group policy timeouts preferred values , run gpupdate /force on rdsh servers.
thanks.
